Frequently Asked Questions

  • My work is based on the person-centred approach to therapy. I offer individual sessions, block booking sessions (six in total), and concessions for those in genuine hardship.

  • Getting started is simple. Reach out through our contact form or schedule a video call—I will walk you through the next steps and answer any questions along the way.

  • You can reach me anytime via my contact page or email (stephen@forgeandfaculty.co.uk). I aim to respond quickly—usually within one business day.

  • I combine a thoughtful, person-centered approach with clear communication and reliable results. It’s not just what I do—it’s how we do it together that can make all the difference.

  • I offer an honest approach to the way I work which is based on lived experiences that have shaped me to the person that I am today. Utilising the person-centred approach, my main core values I use are empathy, unconditional positive regard and congruence.

  • It’s very simple. I use a secure, GDPR-compliant video platform (Google Meet). You’ll receive a link via email; you just click it on your phone, tablet, or laptop. No complicated software to download. If the tech fails, we have a backup plan (like a standard phone call) so your time is never wasted.

  • It’s a common worry. While we aren’t in the same physical room, the 'person-centred' connection is just as deep. Research shows that online therapy is just as effective as in-person. Many clients actually find they can be more honest and open because they are in the comfort and safety of their own home.

  • Privacy is a two-way street. I will always be in a private, locked room on my end. For you, I recommend using headphones with a built-in mic—it keeps my voice private and picks up your voice more clearly even if you need to speak quietly. Some clients even attend sessions from their car to ensure total privacy (although I wouldn’t recommend this due to the potential distractions of the outside world).

  • I keep the business side simple so we can focus on the therapy. Payments are made via secure bank transfer or a payment link 24 hours before our session. I have a 48-hour cancellation policy—if you give me more than 48 hours' notice, we can reschedule or refund. If you fail to provide the required notice, you may still be liable for the full amount.

This helps me keep my practice sustainable and my diary fair for everyone.

  • Yes, I am a fully qualified, trained therapist and registered with the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).

This means I have met high standards of training, I work under a strict Ethical Framework, and I am fully insured. You can contact the BACP for confirmation for peace of mind.

  • I am not an emergency service. My sessions are scheduled support. If we find you are in a period of acute crisis, we could create a 'Safety Plan' together that includes local UK resources like the Samaritans (116 123) or your GP. My role is to walk with you through the long-term work, while those services provide the immediate 24/7 safety net.
